Shaolin Qinna

Shaolin Qinna

Qinna (擒拿) is the famous “seize hold and control” Martial Art of the Chinese Culture. Shaolin Qinna (少林擒拿) is the rare “hold and protect” Martial Art of the Shaolin Culture.

Qinna is the Chinese martial art of seizing and controlling an attacker. It is the root of the Japanese arts of jujitsu (chin.: róushù 柔术) and Aikido (chin.: héqìdào 合気道). Generally, Qinna techniques attack pressure points (chin.: yālìdian 压力点) and lock joints (chin.: suojīnjié 锁筋节) to render an attacker helpless.

Although Qinna techniques are believed to have existed for several thousand years, it was not until 527 C.E. that these techniques were systematically researched and categorized by the Shaolin Temple’s Masters, leading to the creation of many non-lethal techniques, based on Buddhist Non Violence Teaching (chin.: fófēibàolìzhuyì 佛非暴力主义).

Buddhism (chin.: Fójiào 佛教)is built around a general Dharma toward compassion and extreme non-violence.  The Shaolin sect of Buddhism differed from other sects of Buddhism by promoting the mastery of the physical self through the martial arts (chin.: wugōng 武功) and the Sitting Meditation (chin.: zuochan 坐禅).

Shaolin Hard Qigong

Shaolin Hard Qigong

Shaolin Hard Qigong (chin.: Shàolín yìng qìgōng 少林硬气功) is a Shaolin Martial Art (chin.: Shàolín wugōng 少林武功) art and has been around for many hundreds of years. It was originally used to train the body to withstand strong blows and attacks in the days when there were no guns but only the traditional Chinese weapons of spears (chin.: sà 鈒), broadswords (chin.: dàdāo 大刀) and knives (chin.: dāo 釖). Qigong has both extensive and profound knowledge of the cultivation of the human body.

Shaolin Ying Qigong can be considered an independent qigong Art or even better as an independent Wugong art. Why? Because it has gone through a process of several thousand years with a complete system of cultivation theories as well as that of cultivation methods, it can be regarded as an integrated system. Nevertheless, Shaolin Ying Qigong also remains something belonging to the highest level of internal cultivation ways.

Shaolin Ying Qigong is a form of energy mass of matter which is not just concerned with building muscles (chin.: wàigōng 外功); strengthen the internal organs (chin.: nèigōng 内功)and developing power (chin.: gōnglì 工力).

Shaolin Xin Yi Ba

Shaolin Xin Yi Ba

The various styles of Chinese Martial Arts (chin.: Zhongguo Gongfu 中國功夫) are very often classified into the hard or external arts and soft or internal arts. Very commonly it is believed that Shaolin Wu Gong and all its derivates belong to the hard or external arts.

However, hard and soft, or internal (chin.: nei 内) and external (chin.: wai 外), are arbitrary terms. Yet, Shaolin Wu Gong (chin.: Shàolínwǔgōng 少林武功) is regarded as external because in a performance it is most likely to see the fast, external movements of the techniques and the hard force, such as breaking bricks, etc. In Shaolin training, internal and external are both interrelated.

One well protected Art in the Shaolin Buddhist tradition is the Art of the Heart and Mind; known as Shaolin Xin Yi Ba (chin.: Shàolínxīnyìbǎ 少林心意把). This rare art of Shaolin Monastery Masters still exists as part of the Buddhist Tradition of the Shaolin Temple (chin.: shifa 師法) and is known as one of the highest levels of Shaolin Wugong.
