The importance of speech in the context of Buddhist ethics is obvious:
words can break or save lives, make enemies or friends, start war or create peace.

Buddha explained right speech as follows:

1. to abstain from false speech, especially not to tell deliberate lies
2. to abstain from slanderous speech and not to use words against others
3. to abstain from harsh words that offend or hurt others
4. to abstain from idle chatter that lacks purpose or depth.

I am honoured to be able to share in this very special space.
I have been a student of Shaolin for the last 10years. My master is Shifi Shi Yanzi and Shifu Shi Yanlei- both Shaolin Monks/Disciples. I have learnt a great deal from them both about Shaolin culture and hope to further learn and share in this community.

Hello from California!

I currently am a college student and personal trainer.  I have been training in the martial arts in various things for 14 years now, primarily it’s been Jeet Kune Do (Jie Quan Dao).  I have always had a deep love for Shaolin and Chan Buddhism.  My practice of Chan Buddhism took me so far that I had ordained for 2 years as a novice monk in a Vietnamese Zen tradition before deciding monastic life was not for me.  I happy to be here, to learn, and to contribute.
